Bookland EAN barcode symbols have become a requirement in the book publishing industry.
They are used to represent the ISBN (International Standard Book Number) of the publication.
Bookland EAN symbols begin with "978" followed by the first nine characters of the ISBN. The last digit of the ISBN number is replaced by a check digit, which is the result of a very long mathematical equation involving the numbers of the ISBN. This check digit is generated by the state-of-the-art computer program used by Two Hearts Design.
The 5-digit add-on is used to represent the price of the publication (or for specific data as determined by a publisher). When used to show pricing, the first digit of the add-on is a currency designator. The remaining 4 digits represent the suggested list price.
